Have you heard of Papua New Guinea?

Until joining staff in 2011 at YWAM Townsville, I had no clue about this nation!

 

   

 

 Papua New Guinea is located just off the coast of Australia and is said to be one of the most diverse nations in the world.  PNG has over 800 languages and a total of 22 provinces including many surrounding islands.

This nation has a lot to offer with a rich culture and history, but also still faces many challenges.  
Australia is #2 on the human development index, while  PNG (Australia's closest neighbor) comes in at #152.

 

 

 

A few facts about PNG:

1 in 13 children die before the age of 5
5 women die during childbirth every day

4.3 Million people do not have access to clean water (2/3 of the population)
5.8 Million people do not have access to adequate sanitation in PNG (over half of the population)
Pretty Crazy right?

For over five years, YWAM Medical Ships (MSA) have transported medical teams into remote areas of Papua New Guinea to deliver vital healthcare and training to the people. In order for their life-saving work to continue, MSA will need to raise $5 million for a new ship.
While this sounds like an impossible figure, I believe it is possible!

Being overseas in Papua New Guinea has many challenges, but personally the one I struggle with the most is "Bath Time".
Showers do not really exist past the city limits in PNG so we use the commonly known "Bucket Bath", and in most villages even getting to the water can be challenging.      

I am joining YWAM MSA in overcoming the impossible, with a challenge of my own.  Before I attempt this challenge, though, I am hoping to get some support behind me. Anything that I raise will go into funding YWAM's new Medical Ship, and helping out our brothers and sisters over in Papua New Guinea. 
 

I know running water is a luxury and so to support Papua New Guineans, I am going "Back to the Bucket" for Bath Time.
My fundraiser will go until December 1st and the amount raised will decide what I will do!

$0-$500:  1 Week of Bucket Baths
$501  -  $1000: 2 Weeks of Bucket Baths
$1001 - $1500: 3 Weeks of Bucket Baths

$1501 - $2000: 4 Weeks of Bucket Baths 
$2001 - $3000: 4 Weeks of Bucket Baths with No Hot Water
$3001 - $5000: 4 Weeks of Bucket Baths with No Hot Water, AND No Towel
$5001 - $10,000: 4 Weeks of Bucket Baths with No Hot Water, No Towel, AND Bar Soap Only
